Dr. Fatima Al-Shamsi is the United Arab Emirates University’s Secretary General and a Faculty Member at the Economics Department, College of Business & Economics (UAEU). She has a PhD in Economics from the University of Exeter, United Kingdom, a Master of Economics from the University of Baltimore, USA and a Bachelor of Economics from the College of Economics & Political Sciences, Cairo University. She held several academic and administrative positions such as; chair person of the Economics Department, Assistant Dean for Students’ Affairs, head of the Internship and Career Advising Unit, Vice-Dean and Acting Dean of the College of Business & Economics at the UAE University. She served as a consultant to the UAE National Human Recourse Development and Employment Authority.
Dr. Fatima Al Shamsi has many research publications in refereed academic journals and presented research papers in different scientific conferences. Most of her researches deal with economic development and growth issues, economic coordination, the role of the private sector in development in the GCC countries, foreign direct investments, diversification of national income. Dr. Al-Shamsi’s research interest is also in the area of women economic role and labor force participation. She has participated in many conferences, seminars, and workshops addressing women issues such as “woman as a partner political decision”, “woman is a partner in economy” and a partner in decision-making and many others.
Dr. Fatima Al Shamsi has been a member of many committees at national and international levels such as the UAE World Trade Organization Committee and was a member of delegation to the WTO conference in Doha. Dr Al-Shamsi is a founding member of the Gulf Research Foundation in Switzerland, and a founding member of the UAE Human Rights Association. She is also a member of Abu Dhabi Higher Education task force and a member in the committee preparing the report of “the UAE Millennium’s Objectives for 2007” prepared by the Ministry of Economy.
